Prematurity and Infants

Premature infants are at higher risk for delays and conditions like Cerebral Palsy. Early intervention helps mitigate these effects. Physiotherapists use tools like the Hammersmith Neurological Evaluation and Alberta Infant Motor Scale to assess and treat delays and musculoskeletal conditions, recommending further investigations if needed.

Early Intervention and
Developmental Delays

Physiotherapy supports your child’s growth, helping them play and keep up with peers. Through play-based, kid-friendly interventions your child can build strength, balance, coordination, and other gross motor skills. We aim to integrate these skills into their weekly routines for active participation in physical activities, such as bike riding, sports, and playground confidence. Additionally, we screen and support conditions like Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and Global Developmental Delay

Disability / NDIS

We support children with disabilities in breaking down barriers through functional physiotherapy. Our expertise spans a wide range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy, helping children develop motor planning, coordination, and adapt physical tasks to participate in activities. We assist with physical goals such as dressing, showering, swimming, managing school and community environments, and participating in sports. Experienced in complex disability, we provide assessments and prescribe assistive technology like mobility equipment, customized tricycles, wheelchair postural support, and sleep positioning systems to enhance daily life participation.

Early Childhood Approach Key Worker

We are extensively trained in the NDIS Key Worker Model, ideal for early intervention. A Key Worker helps families navigate the NDIS, coordinates services, and provides holistic interventions in the child’s environments, reducing the strain of multiple appointments and ensuring consistency. Focused on the child’s NDIS goals, we develop positive family routines and strategies for a calm environment, building family capacity to integrate these strategies daily. We support children in developing play and social skills, assist families in accessing community groups and childcare, and manage communication with the therapy team and NDIS to maximise NDIS funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

We support any child 0-18 years through their NDIS funding if they are plan-managed or self-managed. Privately funded families can also access our services for assessments and ongoing therapy, including providing supporting documents or referral letters. Children can get subsided fees through a medicare rebate with a chronic disease management plan from their GP.
You do not need a GP referral to get started with us.

It is never too early to consider physiotherapy for your child! Evidence shows that early intervention leads to long term, sustainable results and reduces the impact as the child gets older. The brain and body has the best chance of building strong connections when a child is young. If you have any concerns with your child’s physical development reach out to us to discuss how physiotherapy can play a role.

Typically our sessions last for about 1-1.5 hours, but are flexible depending on the age, needs of the child and goals we are working towards. Our sessions include components of education to the child’s supports, development of resources and documentation of the session. Travel is allocated in addition to the session time.

Accessing our mobile services allow for the flexibility to support the child across any of their natural environments. Sessions can be conducted in your home, at local parks/playgrounds, at daycare, preschool or school depending on the areas of focus and what your child wants to achieve. Our therapists have working with children checks for NSW and VIC and can organise access into your child’s education settings if required.

Our initial session is focused on gathering the background information of the child, exploring their current function and what we want to work towards. It is important to consider what you want to get out of physiotherapy and some therapy goals for your child before the session occurs. It is beneficial to have on hand your child’s current NDIS plan (if NDIS funded) and any relevant reports or letters.

The frequency of sessions depends on the goals we are working towards, the available funding and the routines of the family. We create an individualised therapy plan with you, exploring the best approach for your child and to ensure we get the most out of the therapy. Sometimes children benefit from an intensive burst of therapy to embed a specific goal and other times having sessions spread out across their plan is more effective for that child. Our therapists are flexible and can adapt our sessions to changes in the child’s routine or goals throughout the therapy journey.

During each session our therapists will share ideas and strategies that families can do between therapy sessions. We know that the best way to get progress is when therapy is embedded into the child’s daily life and routines, so tailor our interventions to be functional, using the child’s own toys and environment so therapy can carry over to family life. Exploring local playgrounds and parks,  trying out community swimming pools, allowing opportunities for outside play, attending libraries and playgroup activities, and considering an after-school sport program are a few activities which may support the needs of your child.
